It Begins With Surrender

Hello, friends.

Life can be somewhat unpredictable. Lately, the days have been intertwined with joy and sorrow, leading me to pause and ask. . .

Perhaps the Lord is leading you to surrender all to Him especially parts of your life that are falling apart?

These past couple of weeks have been filled with so many challenges. From a stint in the hospital to many unanswered medical concerns, it has been a trying time. Alongside that, our AC is causing our home to smell like smoke, making it almost unbearable to navigate the summer heat in Texas. However, I am grateful for the rain these past couple of days and the cool breeze making its way through my office windows.

The stillness has a way of quieting my mind as my thoughts wander to how the Lord helps us through grief. Today would have been the due date for our precious Shiloh, a day filled with hopes and dreams that is now marked by loss. The ache of an empty bassinet is another painful reminder of the fragility and unpredictability of life. And just about a week ago, we began grieving the loss of my beloved grams. Yet in the midst of all the sorrow, we also celebrated a very special birthday and a very happy Father’s Day. These moments of joy remind me that even in the hard times, God’s love is always near. He has a way of gifting our days with moments that make us smile.

How is the Lord gifting you with smiles today?

Through it all, He is our rock and shield, holding us together when everything around us seems to be falling apart. He is also a God who redeems and restores. I have faith that He’s about to bring renewal not only to my life but to yours as well. And that makes me smile. He has a purpose for every trial we face, and He is so faithful to strengthen our faith. Throughout my walk with Him, He has taught me that it begins with surrender—letting go of everything and holding onto Him. Surrendering to God doesn’t mean giving up; it means entrusting our lives and circumstances to His will and timing. This can be incredibly challenging, especially when we face hardships that seem unending.

What hardships are you facing today, my friends?

Time and time again, I have learned that fighting for faith during difficult times requires us to lean not on our own understanding, but on God’s unchanging character and promises. He has shown me throughout my life that no matter how long our valley seasons may last, He is the One that straightens our paths (Proverbs 3:5-6). No matter how dark our trials may be, He is working everything for our good and His glory even when we can’t see it. When we surrender, trials have a way of positioning us to recognize our own weakness and fixing our eyes to see that it’s about acknowledging who He is and trusting that He is with us in the storms.  James 1:2-4 remind us, “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”

It’s through the trials that our faith is tested, refined, and matured. The challenging experiences we face, though painful, can lead to a stronger faith that stands firm through all of life’s challenges. Because of Jesus, we become more resilient and learn to rely on Him more deeply.

Joy is not a fleeting emotion but a deep-rooted assurance in God's presence and promises.

When I Put Pen to Paper

It might seem paradoxical, but even in the darkest times, joy absolutely can be found. This joy is not a fleeting emotion but a deep-rooted assurance in God’s presence and promises. Psalm 30:5 tells us, “Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes in the morning.” There is weeping and there is rejoicing. Joy and sorrow often coexist, and recognizing God’s blessings even in the hard times can help us walk with hope.

There was a woman who had been suffering for twelve years. She said, “If I touch even his garments, I will be made well.” The Bible records that “immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease.” Her faith in Jesus made her well. (Mark 5:25-34)

Her faith in Jesus made her well!!

This story always encourages me. It reminds me that even when we feel broken and helpless, reaching for Jesus and having faith in Him provides healing. How is your faith in Him, today? I want to encourage you to reach out to Jesus and trust in His unfailing love and grace.

One of the ways I put my faith in Jesus and surrender all to Him is through writing. When I put pen to paper, God always meets me there—He pours out His love and grows my trust in Him. Writing has become a way to process my emotions and draw near to God through all of life’s ups and downs. Through my writing and pouring myself into creative therapy, I’ve been creating space to reflect on all of the experiences from these past couple of weeks. And my mind wandered to all of the times the Lord has drawn near.

I remember a particular moment when God’s presence was undeniable. Several months ago, I faced a heavy season of grief and uncertainty. My husband and I were walking through our second pregnancy loss and financial difficulties, and I felt completely overwhelmed. One day at church, God led me to pour my heart out in prayer. As tears streamed down my face, I leaned on Jesus asking Him for guidance and to steady my heart. And He immediately made me well! I was gifted peace that guarded my heart and mind in Christ Jesus. After church that day, a few of my dear friends unexpectedly offered us help, both financially and spiritually. This act of kindness was a tangible reminder of God’s provision and love. I’ll never forget how God strengthened my faith that day and taught me that He often works through the people He has placed around us.

Finding Comfort in Creativity and Community

Reflecting on these past couple of weeks in particular, I’ve seen God’s faithfulness in every trial. He has used creativity and community to bless me with peace and encouragement. Thinking on all the times God has drawn near and the work He’s doing on my heart, I wrote two blog posts. One blog post is about a stamping tip that is sure to add some creativity to your life. Engaging in creative activities is a wonderful way to live out your faith and find peace in challenging times. It is an avenue God has used to heal parts of my heart that have been tucked away with grief. Another blog post is in honor of my beloved grandma and the promise of heaven, which brings comfort during this time of grief. Remembering her life and the love she shared with us has been a source of peace, reminding me of the eternal hope we have in Christ.

The promise of heaven gives us so much strength and joy!

No matter what we’re walking through, we can lean on Him and His faithfulness. In moments of despair, we can turn to prayer and Scripture for comfort, guidance, and healing. We can surround ourselves with a community of believers who can offer support and encouragement. Sometimes, the simple act of sharing our burdens can lighten the load. I understand how hard it can be to share your burdens with others. This is something I’m still learning how to do. But I’ve found that in those vulnerable moments, God’s grace shines through so brightly, reminding me that we are never alone. Together, we can find strength in His love and move forward with His hope. We can point one another to King Jesus and His promise of heaven.

Remember, friends. . .
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” —Lamentations 3:22-23

If you’re enduring challenging times, I pray that you find strength in surrendering your burdens to God and experience His peace that surpasses all understanding. I pray that you experience the joy of God’s presence in the midst of your trials. And I pray that community surrounds you with His love and grace. He is always with us, guiding us through every hardship and victory. We can hold onto His promises—ALWAYS!
